A new Jeans series, officially named "Jeans Bug" (S704 Jeans Bug), appeared in 1982, based on the 1983 model year. Like all Beetle production since 1978, it was built in Mexico at the Puebla plant and imported into Europe. It was available in 2 colors: red LA3A "MARSROT" and white L90E "ALPINEWEIß". Like its predecessors, it was devoid of chrome. The bumpers, trim strips, side mirrors, door handles, and hood/trunk handles were painted matte black. A "Jeans Bug" logo was placed on its sides, highlighted by a double red/black stripe for the white version and white/black for the red version. Another two-tone double stripe ran just below the side trim strips. This same "Jeans Bug" logo was also applied to the left side of the engine lid.

Mexican Beetles have the unique characteristic of having a smaller rear window than European models. It is actually the same rear screen used on models built between 1965 and 1971. The rear apron is no longer curved like on the 1974 to 1978 models. Other notable updates: the dual-circuit braking system is equipped with a warning light on the dashboard, and the windshield washer is now electric! The Jeans Bug was produced in approximately 1,000 (*) units and sold at a price of 9,995 Deutschmarks in Germany. It was also imported into Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Italy.

The front seats feature height-adjustable headrests, the backrest includes the traditional storage pocket on its rear side, and a Jeans logo on a leather patch is sewn onto the side of the seat. The door panels are made of matching vinyl. The gearshift features the Jeans logo. The white headliner is a full-length model, and the dashboard is covered with a black padded protective trim. The Jeans Bug came standard with a "Salzgitter" radio.
